Do not build anything close to the water.(about 10 small tiles) Once you start excavation those tiles will slowly collapse into the ocean.

Umm, the giant ore piles seem to have this issue of collapsing when disturbed and bringing the game to a crawl as they process. I would make them a bit wider and less tall so they don't avalanche like this.

Added some more trees closer to the starting area as suggested.

It's a nice sandbox map! My only suggestion would be putting the forest way closer to the starting area.
