Description

Advanced Oil Power Plant

v1.3 - added modification focused on increasing water production, minor changes.

This facility generates 54 MW of electricity directly from crude oil. It fully purifies Exhaust gases and CO₂, recovers spent steam back into water, and converts sour water into fertilizer. Crude oil is a relatively accessible resource in large volumes during the transition from midgame to late game, making this an convient and cost-effective energy solution.

The 300 MW single-unit version of the power plant is available here: https://hub.coigame.com/Blueprint/Detail/1054

Note: It can operate without CO₂ recycling, but in that case, emissions will be released into the atmosphere.

1. Oil Power Plant

Startup Procedure:

  1. Connect the plant to 2 Seawater Pumps and 1 Liquid Dump set to priority 2 — this is critical infrastructure for the power plant’s operation. Their inputs are located near the water storage. Set the water storage to import mode (for some reason, this setting doesn't get saved in the blueprint). Also connect pipelines to a crude oil supply source.
  2. The facility is equipped with an electric boiler for initial startup. Set it to produce 12 steam per minute (for some reason, this setting doesn't get saved in the blueprint). Once the system processes its first batch of self-produced fuel, the main gas boilers will take over and the electric boiler will shut off automatically.
  3. When the storage of Medium Oil is full, unpause the main steam pipeline leading to the turbines.
  4. Switch the water storage to export mode — the facility produces water in surplus (see screenshot 3). Alternatively, the water storage can be connected to a shared pipeline outside the facility.
  5. Remove the electric boiler — it is no longer needed.

By the end of the midgame, crude oil can be purchased using Vehicle Parts II. A single Cargo Ship trip delivers 5250 oil for 190 Vehicle Parts II — enough to power this plant for two years. This means the monthly fuel cost will be approximately 8 Vehicle Parts II, which is quite cheap for a developed industry. Additionally, extracting oil from the island’s own resources is a much more convenient process than coal mining.

Another way to obtain crude oil for the power plant is through Food Pack trading https://hub.coigame.com/Blueprint/Detail/624. The plant produces fertilizer and water, which boost agricultural output. The resulting grain is then used to produce Food Packs, which can be traded for crude oil. One such factory generates enough trade goods to purchase crude oil for 2–3 power plants. This creates a closed supply loop, allowing the power plant to become resource self-sufficient.

If both uranium ore and oil are purchased for gold, the cost of generating 1 MW of energy is actually lower for the Oil Power Plant than for the first nuclear one.

Note: Timely export of all solid and liquid byproducts is crucial for the power plant’s operation. Gases are easier to manage — they can be vented through backup Smoke Stacks if processing is not possible due to full storage, and so on. Therefore, the power plant will issue warning notifications when storage levels exceed 75%.

The power plant design allows them to be grouped in a row — as many as the pipeline capacity allows, typically up to 5 units per main pipe.

2. Oil Power & Water Plant

This modification is aimed at increasing the volume of water generated from spent steam, at the cost of slightly reduced fuel efficiency. The water storage has been replaced with a large one, the electric boiler has been moved outside the power plant, and maneuverability has been slightly improved. The startup procedure is the same, except that the facility now requires 3 Seawater Pumps and 2 Liquid Dumps for operation. This plant pairs exceptionally well with agriculture, as it produces both water and fertilizers — making this version potentially even more practical. Therefore, it's likely a good idea to plan for power plants and farms to be located close to each other.

works super :D love it

@THEGO90 Thanks! I tried my best to make it both look nice and work well. I think this could be one of my best blueprints here. Fire burns, water flows, and machines hum — it's just satisfying to watch:)
