Description

Fast Breeder Reactor power station

V 1.0.0

For game update 3

There are better and more resource efficient ways to design a FBR power station. This one is meant to be a starter design. By this time in the game you should already have all the required inputs available.

This FBR is going to partially self sustain its fuel consumption, however it needs to be fed externally via included bus.

Consumes:

  • 2 Acid
  • 2 Molten glass
  • 1 Steel
  • 12 Yellowcake
  • 4 Salt
  • 96 Water

Note: The design is tileable but scaling beyond 4 can turn into a headache when dealing with Toxic slurry from the Yellowcake production. There are other ways to provide the extra 4 units of Blanket fuel if you don't want to deal with Yellowcake.

Startup:

  1. Prime the FBR with Water, 160 Core fuel and 16 Blanket fuel. The mark IV pipes in the included bus segment blueprint will hold exactly 162 units. Blanket fuel can be primed "locally" by supplying the chemical plant with Yellowcake and Salt. The pipe connection will hold way more that the 16 units of Blanket fuel required.

  2. Set the FBR to full power and unpause it until it's fully primed.

  3. Pause the external feed pipes for Core Fuel (and Blanket Fuel if you primed it externally).

  4. Done, forget about it.

Bonus: Included Enrichment plant production for priming the FBR with Core fuel.

Is it possible to operate entirely on depleted uranium reserves?

With this setup, I'm not sure, because the only available recipe consuming Depleted uranium in this context is [2 Blanket fuel (enriched) + 10 Depleted uranium + 4 Salt = 4 Blanket fuel]. This will cause some problems: - It will take away 2 enriched Blanket fuel from the Enrichment plants, causing a production deficit of 0.5 Core fuel and 1.5 Blanket fuel per cycle. - The Depleted uranium supply will eventually run out. - If you decide to supply the missing 0.5 Core fuel via bus from the external Core fuel production, the Depleted uranium production will still not keep up over time. One solution to explore and test is to have one FBR set to 3x enrichment, supplying extra Blanket fuel (enriched) to the other FBR power stations. However you look at it, you will have to supply and enrich extra Blanket fuel to sustain the Core fuel production and here is where [2 Blanket fuel (enriched) + 10 Depleted uranium + 4 Salt = 4 Blanket fuel] is useful (as long as you don't run out of DU) . Edit: I've added a version of this here: https://hub.coigame.com/Blueprint/Detail/702
