Tileable FBR Nuclear Power
Description
Tileable Fast Breeder Reactor power plant
V 1.0.0
Designed for Update 3.
The blueprint contains:
- FBR enrichment plant
- Tileable FBR power plant
- Conveyor and pipe bus segment
- Bus with vehicle ramp overpass
- Core fuel production plant (for priming the reactors)
Consumption:
One FBR enrichment plant sustaining 12 FBR power plants at maximum capacity:
- Up to 120 Depleted uranium or Up to 144 Yellowcake (It's designed to run on both DU and Yellowcake. It will prioritize DU, as long as it's available.)
- 48 Salt
- 2 Acid
- 2 Molten glass
- 1 steel
- 24 water
Each FBR power plant:
- 2 Acid
- 2 Molten glass
- 1 steel
- 96 water
- 4 Blanket fuel supplied by the FBR Enrichment plant
How it works
Each FBR power plant is loosing 4 Blanket fuel per cycle when converting 16 Blanket fuel (enriched) back to 12 Blanket fuel and 4 Core fuel (2x Enrichment plant). In order to fully sustain the Core fuel production loop, each FBR power plant relies on importing the missing 4 Blanket fuel from the FBR enrichment plant via bus.
The FBR enrichment plant can theoretically sustain up 12 FBR power plants. If the Depleted uranium runs out, it will switch to running on Yellowcake. At this point it will consume 144 Yellowcake (864 Uranium ore, 288 Acid in / 864 Toxic slurry out) and the Reactor itself becomes redundant.
Recommended construction order
See Modhub page cover
- Place the FBR enrichment plant. Leave a generous amount of space to the right side but especially to the left. This is where all the power stations will go.
- Connect any combination of conveyor and pipe bus segment and ramp segment to the right.
- Connect the Core fuel production plant. This is also the part where you connect all the required resources to the bus an then run the fuel production plant for a while until it produces at least 160 Core fuel.
- Connect the first FBR power plant to the left of the FBR enrichment plant.
FBR enrichment plant startup:
Build the FBR enrichment plant and set it to full power (I'd recommend pinning the FBR UI window for the rest of the process - the button next to close).
Make sure the Depleted uranium intake conveyor is paused and only feed Yellowcake and Salt (the conveyor stack order from top to botom: Salt, Depleted uranium, Yellowcake).
Let the chemical plants run and wait until the FBR Blanket fuel is fully primed (48 Blanket fuel units in the FBR).
Prime the FBR with Core fuel by unpausing the Core fuel pipe I coming in from the bus. Pause it once you have 160 Core fuel in the FBR.
Note: After the FBR started, the Core fuel level is going to drop at ~150. It's normal. This happens because some of the Core fuel is going to circulate inside the pipe loop.
Repeat step 4 if your OCD can't handle a bar not being full but don't overdo it because the loop might get clogged with spent Core fuel.
Unpause the Depleted uranium intake conveyor.
Done.
FBR Power plant startup:
Build it and make sure all the bus connections are correct (green connected icons), then set it to full power.
Wait until the Blanket fuel is primed (16 Blanket fuel units in the FBR).
Follow step 4 from the FBR enrichment plant startup.
Done.
Note: It was tested for only about 30 years with 4 power plants.
Except for the included Core fuel plant, you have to deal with all the required resources yourself.
Don't forget to connect a Shredder to the Retired waste output conveyor included in the bus.
