Starting locations

1. Easy

A casual-friendly start position - good for newer players or players looking for a fairly casual experience. You can access every resource from the start, except gold.

2. Hard

A challenging starting location. Despite starting on the large main island, your access to the island is very limited. You need to get access to it on your own. Coal is not initially accessible, you may need to use Coal Makers before you get to the northern or southern deposits.

3. Hard

A challenging starting location. Not a lot of space to build. You have to make your way to the elevated coal and oil deposits in order to use them.

Description

A fairly large map with 3 islands (and a 4th tiny one!) featuring stony beaches, mountains, and a lot of resources. However, the resources are all split accross the 3 islands. Gold is not available on the large island, only on the 2 medium ones.

The largest island features a starting location in the south and north of the island. The southern (#1) location is suited for casual gameplay, while the northern location (#2) is a harder, and more challenging starting zone, you'll have to mine your way out to reach the rest of the island to access all the resources. To access coal - either get to the main part of the large island, or dump your way to the tiny coal deposit in the north. The third starting location (#3) is placed on the western island. A ramp is required to get up to coal.

The map looks a bit like a medieval helmet, doesn't it?

Nice map for beginners.
resources on this map feel a little bit conflicting with the land itself and not giving the players another breathing room for their starting base location so it needs to be spread out a little bit more so players actually have a better foot hold the stepping of resources from higher tiers to lower tiers are okay but they could be improved
Map updated to version 7

Changes in this version:
-Sand deposit on main island next to limestone was made slightly smaller
-Some tweaks to copper at the top of the main island (the copper deposit that's accessible by Start #2)

Map updated to version 5

I agree @Trent the Thief , i have just released version 2 where I increased all oil deposit sizes - they were waaaay too low. The deposit close to start #1 has been bumped up to 17 500. Groundwater sources were also tweaked and should be a bit higher now

Edit: updated again, 17 500 was not enough, it is now 41 500 which is comparable to new haven's 50 000.

This is a well-crafted map. But having played the map for a couple of hours, I think the starting oil patch might be too small (on the 3/30 version at any rate). I'm getting the "crude oil resource is getting low" warning before I've even researched lab II or cargo depot.

[Updated an hour later] Yep, the death spiral just started. Time to start over.
Starting area 1 is nice and flat for an easy start, with plenty of nearby resources. Great map for a newcomer to COI.
