Description

Self-sufficient Diesel Production by tippyc

Revised for update 3 on June 8, 2025

Produces: 648 diesel 189 fuel gas 243 Fert II 54 Sulfur can produce acid, slag, or overflow as raw sulfur CO2 converted to graphite, or overflow as exhaust

Required supply: 720 Crude 60-120 water ~40.5 limestone 9.64 MW

I also included 3 additional modules: A hydrogen production add-on that converts the fuel gas output to 196 hydrogen A diesel production add-on that converts the fuel gas output to 126 diesel A diesel generator array capable of producing 90 MW, with exhaust processing

User notes:

  1. This build requires an external source of steam hi to get started (i.e. a temporary electric boiler). Once started, this build is designed to be fully self-sufficient on its own byproducts as long as the required inputs are met.
  2. The build is designed with 6 mostly-independent units that can be built one at a time.
  3. The refinery is designed with bypasses to make sure it never stops producing diesel when secondary or waste products back up. If fert 2 backs up, excess ammonia is converted to hydrogen. Excess hydrogen is flared off. If fuel gas backs up, it flares off the fuel gas. Excess sulfur not used for fertilizer or acid is converted to slag. Slag is the exception, if the slag waste backs up, the refinery will back up on sulfur and stop working.

The piping on this is impressive
Thank you, Trent.
Nice setup. Well done.

How do you start it after connecting external water and oil? Seems like it's waiting on steam to start? Edit: I had to jumpstart it with steam from an external boiler.
If you only need the diesel, no problem, just remove the slag and sulphur from the Storages on Belts or Trucks. It's simply beautifully built and it works. It needs steam from outside to start up, but once it's running you don't need it anymore. Thank you for this great blueprint.
