Unified Foundry

Author: Calen
Built for Update 3
vU3.1.2a
For Iron, Steel, Copper, Glass, Silicon, & Gold Smelting \

Description

The Unified Foundry provides a single facility to produce everything that utilizes a molten channel. It is designed for use from mid to end game. The modules of the Unified Foundry are designed to link seamlessly together. Therefore, it is very important to read the description for each blueprint to read installation instructions and points of connection to the design. Also, be sure to check out the Peripherals subfolder, which has transport and ore crusher blueprints.

Stages of the Unified Foundry:

Note: See https://imgur.com/a/Pn0xhEx for installation pictures

  • Stage 1: Initial Build for Iron, Steel, Copper, Glass Smelting, & Recycling
  • Stage 2: Silicon Production
  • Stage 3: Cooling Tower Upgrade
  • Stage 4: Gold Smelting
  • Stage 5: Glass II Upgrade
  • Stage 6: Arc Furnace II Upgrade for Silicon
  • Stage 7: Arc Furnace II Upgrade for Everything Else

Transport System

Ingress and Egress transport modules have been revamped to connect with the Manufacturing Hub as part of a total transport system for your settlement. A transport system that works for everyone in all situations is overly difficult to design. Therefore, I have made the decision to limit the possible methods of connection. I will expand the options as I need to, but I wanted to get this first version of a wholistic system published.

Tips

  1. Use the UF Footprint Guide blueprint to make sure you have enough space.
  2. Start with constructing the pipes, conveyors, and storage first. Then construct the buildings as needed.
  3. Upgrade conveyors to tier III as needed and able.

Change Log moved into the description.
Nice Job, I really like your Blueprints, this one but also the others. Keep it up.
Thanks, Zapatosh!
Any chance of getting a final stage complete blueprint? I keep messing up the Copper/Iron/Steel upgrade to Arc Furnace 2
Calen (edited)
@PiggyWhiskey - So... as it turns out, when I changed the piping for the large cooling tower above the gold foundry, I did not update the arc furnace II steam piping for the glass furnaces. Perhaps that was your issue? This has now been fixed. However, if you were still having difficulties (understandable since it's a complicated upgrade), I have added images here: https://imgur.com/a/yX0XgXR. Lastly, I did update this blueprint with a completed build.

Given how much sulfur this produces because of the exhaust scrubbers plus how much acid it needs its a shame there's not a couple of mixers built in to internalize the production of it. Here is an upgrade to solve that: https://hub.coigame.com/Blueprint/Detail/423 Feel free to do whatever with it.
Calen (edited)
@KT9Q - Good idea! I hadn't thought about that. I think the reason I hadn't is because I build an entire conveyor network for sulfur on my island. So in my games I'm not wasting it, I'm just shipping it elsewhere for processing into acid. But I really like the idea of processing it on site. I'll need another ingress water pipe for the water needed for mixers. I could use the former acid ingress pipe, although I may still need that if sulfur production doesn't meet acid needs. I'll bet there are scenarios where it doesn't. Also, where do I put the mixers? Your blueprint works for pre 2.2 builds, but after 2.2 the recycling module is in the way. I will ponder. Thanks again for the good idea.
Hey, love the Blueprint works amazingly - Found a single pipe missing on the steam/Cooling tower lines between the exhaust scrubbers and cooling towers. Took me an hour to figure out why everything was full of steam and cooling towers weren't working lol
@Djinsomnia - I'm not seeing this problem. It could have been a misplacement or small unevenness of the ground, both of which have happened to me.
@Calen: Question for you. It looks to me like the MH outputs for the Foundry don't match up with the transports/inputs for the MH. What am I missing? Thanks! Love your blueprints - excellent work.
I ran into the same issue as Djinsomnia with the missing pipe, fwiw it only concerns the complete build, not if you build it in steps. The low steam pipe inputs are going into a balancer near the 4 cooling towers and there is a single piece of pipe missing for the output to the cooling towers. No biggie but easy to miss. Thanks for all the blueprints Calen and big compliments for the layouts and clear instructions! <3
Awesome job!
If this is meant to plug into your manufacturing hub, where is the carbon dioxide and slag meant to go? The pipes in the egress blueprints for these lines are not the same as the ones for the manufacturing hub and its transport belts. The manufacturing hubs lines are flat transports on those sections.
Impossible to copy the link.. :/
обновите до новой версии! (чертеж не работает, нельзя построить)
@Persox & @Степан - I just tested copying the blueprint, pasting it into COI, and building it. Everything seems fine to me.
I went to use this BP, and realized that the Ingress transport doesn't mach up to the ingress ports for theGraphite, and Coal storage boxes. The belt that is there is a flat belt and not a u-shape belt, plus the two graphite belts are U-shape belts, and not flat belts.
good stuff, im surprised it didn't have ore crusher at the very beginning
@MaddTrker - The ingress transport works fine for me. Remember there are belts & pipes for modules not yet installed at the beginning. You can anchor via the water pipe, which is the 3 transport from the right (or left if you flipped the foundry & ingress transport).
@zack12027 - I have those as separate blueprints (in the Peripherals subfolder) so you can place them wherever you want. I usually place them near the relevant mines or depots.
this is not bad but can you make a version where first stages are separate for early game ? im saying about main complex this is huge but given time we can start early and upgrade it or start building it
@halcyforn - I actually have a smaller version for the early game called Early Foundry.
@Calen you didnt understand this one is ok but i ask if you can just split first part with basic iron, copper steel, glass, for people who dont want build first early but want start build this one on start.
@halcyforn Again, that's what the other blueprint is for. You're not supposed to start with this blueprint you're supposed to start with the early foundry blueprint. That one is meant for early game, this one is not.

Something great about this design is it fits at the bottom of the Armageddon crater. So if you build a path to the bottom and ramps up to the sides you can just build stackers that dumps all excess raw ore over the sides of the crater and have it collect to store at the bottom. Then you can just have a couple of excavators at the bottom extract from the piles based on what resources you need most.

@5h4dow - That's awesome! Send me a screenshot on Discord sometime.

My current issue is that the ingress for the coal line is a flat conveyer not a u-shaped one. I did drop the Completed BP and that is working great, your BP's are top notch friend. Any chance of getting a picture of the back end hookups on the finished build?
Calen (edited)
@HopsterCitrine - Thanks! I'm glad you like my blueprints! So here's what happened... The Ingress transport blueprint was designed for the stage 1. However, in stage 7, the Graphite and Coal storage switch places. That's why the completed build and the ingress transport don't work perfectly together. So I created a new blueprint called, Foundry Ingress Transport - Completed Build.

Loving the Blueprints, Calen. Will this and the MH be updated for Update 3? As well as farm and Food & drug? I am loving the new, smaller ones for early game, but afraid to start with these if the updated ones come in a day or two. (Don't make me try to figure out this stuff on my own!! lol) I am not sure what else changed, recipe-wise, beyond the loss of bricks. Also, have you considered adding Concrete and paper to this BP? I have made my own add-on BP to tack on the the side of this one with those two added, although I expect I will have to do it again after this is updated. Again, Best blueprints on here, Cheers.
@Stagler76 - The UF U3 build is ready now! I don't have a date for the rest yet, but I am working on them. I have concrete in a separate blueprint. I considered adding it several times to the Unified Foundry, but ultimately decided against it.
Not sure if acid makes it to the gold.
Kozrek (edited)
No, he forgot the connection to acid storages with atep 4, pls fix.
@Hail @Kozrek - The connection is there, you must have misplaced the gold blueprint as it works fine on mine. On the note of gold however between the 1st two and last 4 gold smelters one of the belts is facing the incorrect way from the settling tanks. Not a huge issue just a case of changing the direction but just in case someone else notices it. Again Thank you for all your hard work on the BP's Calen they are amazing and my game would look trash without them xD
Am I stupid? How is this ingress supposed to connect? https://imgur.com/a/CbutxAo
Calen (edited)
@Djinsomnia - Fixed! Thanks!
@wickys - It doesn't anymore. I need to update all transport blueprints, but wanted to wait until I figured out trains. But getting all of these blueprints up-to-date has taken precedence over that.
@Calen theres missing an aluminium scrap bucket/sorter for the recycling center bit. Looks great tho other than that so far. maybe in the future, add the Co2 > graphite and also somewhere to bin off the wastewater from gold smelting, unless thats part of one of your other blueprints and i just havent put it down in my game
iam keeping the old ingress/egress, so thanks for the underpass options. kinda like that the old ones are not too high. makes connecting things overpass easier.
